Επιτυχημένη η πρώτη νυχτερινή αποστολή της Virgin Orbit

Η Virgin Orbit ολοκλήρωσε με επιτυχία την πρώτη νυχτερινή αποστολή της, εκτοξεύοντας επτά δορυφόρους σε τροχιά. Το ειδικά τροποποιημένο Boeing 747 με την ονομασία Cosmic Girl έφερε τον πύραυλο Launcher One που κουβαλούσε κάτω από τα φτερά του, σε ύψος 10 χιλιομέτρων όπου και τον απελευθέρωσε για να συνεχίσει το ταξίδι του σε χαμηλή τροχιά.

Μετά την αρχική της αποτυχία κατά την πρώτη δοκιμαστική πτήση το Μάιο του 2020, η Virgin Orbit μετρά τέσσερις επιτυχημένες προσπάθειες σε τροχιά από τον Ιανουάριο του 2021. Η εταιρία ανήκει στον εκκεντρικό δισεκατομμυριούχο Richard Branson και αποτελεί διαφορετική εταιρία από την Virgin Galactic, η οποία είναι εταιρία για διαστημικό τουρισμό.
